Mariah Balderrama

Grant Writer

Mariah is a Salem, OR based grant writer with a passion for the performing arts and advancing equity movements. Her extensive academic background gives her an edge in tackling a diverse range of grant requests. She received her first Bachelor’s from The Evergreen State College where she studied the sociocultural influences of literature on revolutionary ideology. She returned to academia after working in the banking industry for several years, where she received her second Bachelor’s from Willamette University in Psychology and Public Health. All the while staying heavily engaged in local theatre nonprofits.

Prior to joining the JLL team, Mariah was on the other side of the grants process where she spearheaded application and evaluation designs for a local funding organization. This brings an invaluable insight into the inner workings of the grant process and a deep understanding of how grant evaluators think. She’s also dang good at coming up with attention-catching titles for grant requests- after all, it is the first impression evaluators get of your request!

When she’s not typing away at her keyboard, Mariah can be found behind the pages of a good book. She owns a home library of over 1000+ books and feels her constant exposure to literature makes her writing all the better!
